"Few things, but great"

Had to look it up.

Gauss supposedly had the motto "A few, but ripe" ("pauca sed matura") which created a lot of problems when he didn't publish his discoveries.

I made it up by starting with "pauca sed matura", and modifying it by looking up English-Latin Dictionary. :)

Btw, other options I played with:
pauca sed maximus (I thought Magnus was better, due to the implied "magnus opus" for writers), and I could not find the Latin for "phenomenal" because my first attempt was to translate "few, but phenomenal". I did not try to translate, "few, but awesome".

Shouldn't it be "magna"? Plural neutral: http://la.wiktionary.org/wiki/magnus
