Sometimes the world shows you something, a sparkle perhaps, and you know you should understand something from it, but you keep staring, trying to work it all out.

I got an email sometime ago with the list of top 10 algorithms (influential) in data mining: C4.5, k-Means, SVM, Apriori, EM, PageRank, AdaBoost, kNN, Naive Bayes, and CART. See this page for details, including the pdf that describes the context, and the 18 candidates from which these 10 were culled. There is also a page of top 10 problems in data mining, but the list is quite broad.
